Castello, on a spur of rock sheer above the lake, with magnificent panoramic views. With its wonderful air of spirituality and peace, its history, artistic & architectural beauty, and marvellous location, it is one of the most famous and well-loved sacred places of Lake Garda. For centuries it has been a place of pilgrimage and devotion, particularly to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is portrayed in an antique and miraculous fresco behind the main altar.

The Sanctuary is open from the 13th April 2019 to the 31st October 2019, from 9.00AM until 6.30PM. On Sunday is open till 5PM.

From our bungalow it takes only 10 minutes by car, 45 minutes walking. It can be achieve also by MTB if you are fit.

The Lemon House

Lake Garda, especially along its west bank from Limone to Salò, still has some notable examples of structures not found anywhere else, to remind us of an epoch and civilisation now lost. They are the remains of lemon groves, which impressed Goethe two hundred years ago:“We passed Limone, whose hillside gardens, terraced and planted with lemon trees, create a rich and beautiful picture..” (From Italian journey, 1786)

Those lemon gardens were lemon houses, which date back to the 13th Century, when citrus cultivation was introduced around Lake Garda.

These characteristic buildings were constructed to protect the valuable plantations against the dangers of potential harsh winters. The inhabitants of the coastal area, until then struggling to survive as peasant farmers, boatmen or fishermen, became gardeners. The whole economy benefited from this development, as the production was plentiful, of high quality and almost exclusively intended for export to central European countries and Russia, with high profits guaranteed.By the sweat of their brows and with perseverance they continually improved the cultivation and its structures, making it more functional and productive. Lake Garda became the most northerly area in the world to produce citrus fruits. The unification of Italy and the resulting abolition of customs duties, the development of transport and the degeneration of plants due to gummosis disease, led to the gradual decline of this activity. Despite their decay, the walls of the lemon houses remain-witness of a flourishing period for the economy of Lake Garda.

There has recently been an attempt to save and protect these structures out of respect for their historical and cultural significance, for the local population. The lemon house at “Pra dela Fam”, near the port of Tignale, has been restored by the Comunità Montana Alto Garda Bresciano (the organisation which manages the regional park) and can be visited by the public

The beach and the port (Porto Tignale)

Tignale’s Beach and Port is called “PRA DELA FAM”.

In the past, this area was vital for communication – it linked the villages of Tignale with the main towns along the lakeside.

It was called Pra dela Fam (local dialectic form of “prato della fame” – meadow of hunger) because when sailors or fishermen took refuge there during violent storms, they could be there for days without any food available.

However the most important structure here is La Limonaia (the lemon house) of “Pra dela Fam”, a type of greenhouse for the lemon trees

The “Flying Frogs” are the adventure trails in the Alto Garda Bresciano Park. Situated in a natural haven of great beauty, they offer various opportunities to challenge yourself with adrenalin-packed fun for all ages (from the age of three upwards).
From the “angel flight” of the Big Zip to the trail for young children, the park is equipped with the most modern security systems, such as the continuous lifeline. Access to the oasis is free and you only pay for the activities you choose; so you can spend a day immersed in nature, seeing that there are picnic areas, and in season you can use the nearby municipal sports centre with swimming pool and with the possibility to play beach volleyball, bowling and soccer.

Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking has been defined as a brisk walk using special walking poles.
The general concept of Nordic walking was developed using the basic methods of off-season training and teaching of cross-country skiing.
Compared to regular walking, Nordic Walking involves the application of a force to the poles with every step.
This implies the use of the entire body (with greater intensity) and determines the involvement of muscles not used in normal walking.

Windsurf - Kitesurf

Those who are enthusiasts of these sports and have everything necessary to practice them can do so at our port, which has a slipway for sailing boats. For windsurf enthusiasts the whole area from Tignale to Campione is famous for this sport because of the winds that blow strongly from dawn to dusk – the famous “Peler” in the morning and the “Ora” in the afternoon.Lake Garda organises prestigious sailing competitions such as the Centomiglia and the Trofeo Gorla in September.Since 1951 it has been organizing a lot of international championships and famous Regattas such as the Gorla Trophy, the Centomiglia Regatta and other important social events for disabled people.

Tennis

You can play tennis in Gardola town, if it is busy you can go to Tremosine sul Garda (25 min by car)

Tremosine sul Garda is one of the towns in Europe with the highest concentration of tennis courts per capita. With more than 60 clay courts and cutting-edge tennis clubs, equipped with the most modern equipment indoors and outdoors, Tremosine sul Garda is truly paradise for tennis lovers.

Golf

The 18-hole golf course Bogliaco is located in a picturesque valley elevated 100mts above Lake Garda. This is the third oldest golf course in Italy and it has got quite a story to tell: Founded by the Beretta family (the well-known weapons producer) as a short, but very demanding, 9-hole course for the tourists to enjoy while visiting Lake Garda at the beginning of the 20th century. It was repurposed as an airplane runway by Mussolini, then used as a baseball field for the American garrison, until it finally returned into its original definition as the Golf Club Bogliaco in the 50ies. Since approximately 10 years there are even 18 beautiful holes awaiting the golfer. The elevated position permits a broad view of Lake Garda – especially famous is the tee-shot on hole no. 5 – a beautiful par 3 with a fantastic view of Lake Garda and a signature hole for the Lake Garda golf region.
